Special Olympics Bowling Competition

Hi Pre-Pharms:

We have received some information on the Special Olympics bowling tournament if any of you are interested in helping out. It will be held on Nov 11,12,13 (Wed-Fri) at Bandera Bowl. You may help out for any shift on any day that you choose. This does count as off-campus community service as well!

Morning shift from 10:30am-12:30/1pm (Be there between 9:30 and 9:45am)

Afternoon shift from 1:30pm-3:30/4pm (Be there between 12:30 and 12:45 pm)

The ending times depend on the athletes in your lanes. The athletes are bowling two games. If you want to work all day, they will serve you a lunch. Volunteers will be either a lane assistant, scorekeeper or helping out with awards. Everyone will be given training when they sign-in. The registration form is attached so that it can be filled out ahead of time and brought on the day of competition. It will save time at registration. Even though it says 2008, it's good for 2009. Also, everyone will need to bring a picture ID.

Michael Gres Run (volunteer needed)

Hey pre-pharms,

We need 6 volunteers to help with the Michael Gres memorial run on Sat, Oct. 31st at 7:15 am. Meet at the UIW natatorium at this time. This will consist of 3 people passing out food and 3 people passing out drinks that have been donated. If you haven't signed up to run/walk or don't want to run the 5 miles, let me know if you would like to volunteer to help. Thanks!

PPA Meeting Tuesday 10/20

Hey pre-pharms!

Reminder: Meeting tomorrow at 12pm in BSH Rm. 321.

Also, this week we will be collecting canned foods in Ms. Dimas' office for Golden Harvest. Even if you can't participate in the event on Saturday, you may help PPA out by bringing canned foods. The organization with the most total weight of cans will win a monetary prize. Bring heavy items and consider weight when grocery shopping! Jugs of water are also permitted. We are considered a large organization so we need all of your help! These foods will go to a variety of different entities around San Antonio, not just the food bank.

Hello Pre-Pharmacy members,

An Important Announcement:

On Friday, Nov. 6th at 1:30 pm, we will be having a very special and important presentation. The founding dean of the Feik School of Pharmacy, Dr. Arcelia Johnson-Fannin, will be holding a presentation for the pre-pharmacy members regarding information on the pharmacy school and the pharmacy program in general. I believe that it will be held at the pharmacy school, so dress professional. I strongly encourage all of you to attend if you are available during this time. I need to let her know how many people we expect to attend the presentation, so please e-mail me your rsvp as soon as possible. More details will be available later as the event gets closer. NIght out before PCAT EXAM!!!

Attention Test Takers!

From Dr. Coleman speech...
1. We should not cram before the big test
2. We should not stress out before the big test
3. We should go watch a movie and relax...

And we will apply the 3rd option for this Friday..

We should meet up and car pool to a nice restaurant and have a fat meal and go watch movie...

---- Choose What movie you guys like and vote for it... To make it fair or you know... Vote for the movie that you want to see the most --- Meaning, more votes would be the winner... Too bad if you're movie will not be selected... You can stay home and cry about it all night or just follow us and pretend like you loved it...--- NOT JUST TEST TAKERS --- ANYONE CAN JOIN US!!!

Michael Gres Scholarship Run

Hey Pre-Pharmacy Students,

We need as many people to participate in the run as possible!! This is for a great cause. They have created a new link for those of you who would like to do the Mike Gres Scholarship Run on 10/31. Originally, you would have to go through the homecoming event site. Now you can use this link, set up a user name and password - and register only for the run. The run is only $10 and you will receive a t-shirt with all proceeds going to the Gres Feik School of Pharmacy Scholarship.

--- You should possibly have received an email to print out the admission ticket, if not...
--- Then click here to log into your account and print it out
--- Bring it to the site that you have registered on the 17th

Reminders:
* You will not be allowed to get into the testing room if the ticket is not presented
* Bring at least 2 photo IDs to identify yourself
* Do not bring any electronic devices or Cell phones ---

FYI:
* Wear comfortable clothes --- Should put on some extra clothes because of the weather and room temperature settings...
* Eat something light before you take the test --- Bring a candy bar or something with high concentrated sugars
* Do not study before the day of the test... Best way is to have fun and relax --- 8 hr of sleep would help to boost brain power ---

Hello returning members,

According to our records, you have expired in the spring of 2009. You will need to renew your dues for PPA this year. The deadline for dues is this Thursday, Oct. 1st! The cost is $25 for one year or $40 for two years. If you have any discrepancies or concerns, please contact me and we will try to resolve the issue.

If you are no longer in pre-pharmacy or not interested in PPA, please let me know your situation and I will remove you from the list.

Pre-pharmacy intramural team

Hello pre-pharms:

Intramural registrations for the co-ed dodgeball tournament and co-ed softball are going on now. We are looking at putting together a pre-pharmacy intramural team for the different sports, in order to have fun and bond with peers and classmates outside of the classroom or study groups.

The dodgeball tournament will be held on Tuesday, SEPT 29th.

Softball is held on Sundays from Oct. 25th-Nov. 22nd-- games beginning at 5pm.

The deadline to make a team for the dodgeball tournament is on Friday Sept. 25th so please let me know by then if you would like to play. Also, let me know if you would be interested in playing softball. Thanks!

Alzheimer's Walk

Hello PPA members,

The Alzheimer's Walk will be held next Saturday, Sept. 26th at 6:30 am in Brackenridge Park right across Hildebrand. If you would like to volunteer for this event, I need to get your name, address, email address, and phone number to put on the registration sheet asap. This information will be shared with no one but the Alzheimer's Association. This will make volunteer registration run smoother and quicker. Also, the volunteer coordinator would now like us to help with passing out t-shirts for those who are running. If you would like to car pool, we will meet from 6-6:15 by the ATM machine near Bonilla Science Hall. Please let me know if you will be car pooling or meeting us there so I can get a head count. Thank you and let me know if you have any other questions!
